Clivio Glossary

Demystifying the terminology behind AI, document management, and digital organization.

A

Artificial Intelligence (AI)

Technology

The simulation of human intelligence processes by computer systems. In Clivio, AI is used to read documents, understand context, and extract specific data points like dates and amounts without manual rules.

C

Cloud Storage

General

A model of computer data storage in which the digital data is stored in logical pools, said to be on 'the cloud'. Clivio replaces passive cloud storage with active, intelligent organization.

E

Encryption

Security

The process of converting information or data into a code, especially to prevent unauthorized access. Clivio uses AES-256 for data at rest and TLS 1.3 for data in transit.

Entity Extraction

Features

An NLP technique that automatically identifies and classifies key elements from text into predefined categories. Clivio extracts entities like 'Person', 'Organization', 'Date', and 'Monetary Value'.

G

GDPR

Security

General Data Protection Regulation. A regulation in EU law on data protection and privacy. Clivio is fully compliant, ensuring users have control over their personal data.

H

Hallucination

Technology

A phenomenon where an AI model generates incorrect or nonsensical information. Clivio minimizes this by 'grounding' the AI in your actual document text, preventing it from making things up.

I

Ingestion

Features

The process of importing data into a system. Clivio supports multi-channel ingestion: drag-and-drop, email forwarding, mobile scanning, and API uploads.

L

LLM (Large Language Model)

Technology

A type of AI algorithm that uses deep learning techniques and vastly large data sets to understand, summarize, generate, and predict new content. Clivio uses LLMs to 'talk' to your documents.

M

Metadata

General

Data that provides information about other data. Clivio automatically generates metadata (tags, categories, dates) for every file you upload, making it searchable.

O

OCR (Optical Character Recognition)

Technology

Technology that converts different types of documents, such as scanned paper documents, PDF files, or images captured by a digital camera, into editable and searchable data.

R

Redaction

Features

The process of censoring or obscuring part of a text for legal or security purposes. Clivio's 'Redacted Mode' uses AI to automatically identify and blur sensitive info like SSNs or prices.

S

Semantic Search

Features

A search technique that seeks to improve search accuracy by understanding the searcher's intent and the contextual meaning of terms. This allows Clivio to answer 'Show me invoices from last winter' even if the word 'winter' isn't in the file.

Structured Data

General

Data that has been organized into a formatted repository, typically a database, so that its elements can be made addressable for more effective processing and analysis.

V

Vector Database

Technology

A database that indexes and stores vector embeddings for fast retrieval and similarity search. This is the engine behind Clivio's ability to find documents based on meaning rather than just keywords.

W

Workflow Automation

Features

The use of software to automate complex business processes. In Clivio, this refers to actions like 'If a document is an invoice, extract the amount and tag it as Finance'.
